customer service.

working in a coffee shop, i know about coffee, where the beans from, even one of the owners of the farm in Nicaragua. I know about espresso drinks, latte art, and microfoam.

However what seems to baffle me is the customers.

They walk in, become romanced by the scene of the place, and then decide to look off into the distance.
Now my job in not just to pop that little bubble of theirs, but to do it with finesse, style, and charm.

I ask the customer what they want.
........(no reply)......
I stand and wait patiently.
........(no reply).......
I make a recommendation based on my assessment of them.
......(no reply).....
"I make a killer latte."
......(no reply)......

Here is the fork in the conversation...er... monologue rather.

I can either:
(a) walk away, leaving whatever they want to be gotten by chance.
(b) reach across the counter and shake them back into reality.
(c) continue to wait.
(d) make myself a latte, warm up a croissant, enjoy and hope they follow suite.

hmm...choices choices.

I know what I want to do, also what I have to do....
